چکیده

Recently, the salivary glands function from biochemical, physiological and histochemical standpoints have been rather highlighted. Many investigators have come to try a histochemical detection of enzymes participating in various metabolic pathway in the salivary glands of experimental animals and humans. The previous study of this series dealt with the histochemical demonstration of various hydrolytic enzymes and dehydrogenases in major salivary grands (KAWAKATSU et al. 1960 a, b, 1961 a, b, 1962 a-d). It covered a comparison of the presence of enzymes in the serous and mucous cells of animal salivary glands. It also refered to relations between the localization of oxidative enzymes and their mitochondrias deposition in the electron microsrope. The present experiments were a histochemical approach to the distribution of oxidative enzymes in human major salivary glands.

Histochemical Studies on the Red, White and Intermediate Muscle Fibers of Some Skeletal Muscles Iii. Histochemical Demonstration of Oxidative Enzymes, Phosphorylase and Glycogen in Respiratory Muscle Fibers

1) Three different types of muscle fibers were clearly distinguished in the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm of human, cat and rat by histochemical demonstration of oxidative enzymes, phosphorylase and glycogen. 2) The intercostal muscles and diaphragm each presented dissimilar patterns of the muscle fibers. The diaphragm did not show any definite correlation between the diameter and the h...

Effects of Single Exposure of Sodium Fluoride on Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Enzymes in Salivary Glands of Rats

Many studies suggest that fluoride exposure can inhibit the activity of various enzymes and can generate free radicals, which interfere with antioxidant defence mechanisms in living systems. To further the understanding of this issue, this present study examined the effects of low-dose fluoride treatment on the activity of enzymatic antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), as ...

Radioprotective effect of thymol against salivary glands dysfunction induced by ionizing radiation in rats

The aim of this study was to investigate the radioprotective effect of thymol as a natural product against salivary glands dysfunction induced by ionizing radiation in rats. The rats were treated with thymol at dose of 50 mg/Kg before exposure to radiation at dose 15Gy. Salivary gland function was evaluated with radioisotope scintigraphy and then salivary gland to background counts ratio was ca...

Studies on Histological, Cytological and Cyto- chemical Changes in the Submaxillary Glands of the Mouse by Injection

Secretion of saliva has been studies on man and animals from the histological, cytological, and other viewpoints since H e i d en h a i n (1868) and Zimmer m a n n (1898). On the histological and cytological changes of the salivary glands produced by some reagents, Altmann (1894), A r i m a (1918); Takagi (1925) and many others have reported. It is not enough for understanding the function of s...
